Traveling and Hotels
A hotel provides accommodation, typically in private rooms. It also provides some level of service, and may offer a range of other amenities such as dining, entertainment and recreational facilities, or business services. Hotels vary in size and quality, and can be found all over the world. Many are owned and operated by large hospitality companies, while others are independent or independently branded.
Some hotels have facilities for health, relaxation and fitness, which are often staffed by trained professionals. These may include a gym or a spa, and can offer massages, baths, saunas and more. Business hotels have meeting facilities and can offer a variety of services for business travellers, such as fax machines and copying (at a fixed price per page) and currency exchange.
Most hotels offer a breakfast included with the room rate, ranging from a simple roll and coffee to a full buffet. Some hotels also charge a mandatory fee in addition to the standard room and board charges to provide access to additional facilities, such as exercise facilities or swimming pools. This is usually known as a resort fee.
It is sometimes possible to get lower rates by booking a hotel in advance. However, this can involve a risk, as the hotel may keep your reservation if it is cancelled at short notice. This is particularly common in hotels with high demand. Some hotels also have a loyalty scheme where guests can earn points for stays.
