Article: Entertaiment
Entertainment can be anything that is consumed by an audience to create a positive experience. It can be a form of amusement that makes people laugh, but it can also be a serious activity such as a ceremony, religious festival, or political satire. Today, entertainment can be consumed at any scale, from a single person selecting entertainment on a digital device to an event that is watched by thousands. Merriam-Webster describes entertainment as an activity understood objectively that involves communication between text and audience from an external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience to exist, and takes place in a passive mode. The word entertainment derives from the medieval Latin inter tenere, meaning “to hold inside.” The Indo-European root is ten. See also entertainment news.
